Use digital tools to create a questionnaire to get to know your students' academic and social and emotional needs.
Create remote learning procedures.
Continue some procedures from your physical classroom.
Remember Maslow before Bloom.
Start each day with a recorded morning meeting or check-in.
Provide time during your class for students to practice a mindful minute or stretch break.
Use digital tools, LMS, or video conferencing (whole class or small groups) to create spaces for students to connect. This could also be a student connection discussion forum in your LMS. This could be used for academic questions but could also be used to share appropriate non-academic thoughts and ideas. Be sure to discuss digital citizenship and expectations.
Assign weekly fun challenges or competitions to keep students engaged and connected.
Consider assigning pen pals to create connections. (Great for low or no tech)
Create a suggested schedule for students and parents to provide consistency.
Maintain consistency in your schedule.
Be mindful of students who may have no or low internet. A phone call or postcard goes a long way to maintain connections.
Reach out to your support specialists such as school counselor, social worker, instructional coach, media specialist, or digital learning specialist to provide additional help.
